Dark, cool like the first days of spring
I set the playlist to soft tunes
Starting off with a slow jog
Feet hitting the pavement
Air filling my lungs
Inhale, exhale
Inhale, exhale
My legs feel like I’m gliding
Cruising on the walking path near my home
And it hits me
I am floating
Smoothly propelling myself inch by inch
Gone are the pains I usually feel running
A side cramp
Aching feet
Burning thighs
A cluttered mind
Gone
It’s just me
Coasting on auto pilot
I look straight forward
Confident of the path I have chosen for myself
8 miles pass the Kroger
By the Chic-Fil-a
BY the beautiful houses on the water
8 miles
A once daunting idea
A once impossible task….
And, here I am
Coasting, cruising, gliding
Running
Gratitude courses through my veins
For the ability for the second chance
Ability to transform my body into something healthier,
stronger, more capable
I am thankful for life after the attempt
I am thankful for the bed I will run back too
